Website accessibility compliance in Steinbach
Remote WCAG 2.1 AA audits and repairs for Steinbach dealers, manufacturers, retailers and trades under Man. Reg. 47/2022.
Steinbach is the regional hub of southeastern Manitoba, with a population of 17,806 (Statistics Canada, 2021 Census of Population). Long known as the "Automobile City" for its vehicle dealerships, it is also a regional centre for retail, manufacturing and the trades. Many of its customers come from surrounding towns and rural municipalities, and they usually start with a website.
Since May 1, 2025, organizations with one or more employees in Manitoba have been covered by the Accessible Information and Communication Standard Regulation, Man. Reg. 47/2022 (s. 2(c) (opens in a new tab)). Web content published on or after that date, or needed to access an organization's goods or services, must meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA (s. 7(1) (opens in a new tab)). We work with Steinbach organizations remotely.
Which organizations in Steinbach are covered
The test is one or more employees in Manitoba. A dealership, a manufacturer, a family-run contractor and a church-affiliated charity with one paid staff member are all covered. Large employers must also document their accessibility measures and policies (s. 3(2) (opens in a new tab)) and a training policy (s. 4(4) (opens in a new tab)).
Websites we see most often in Steinbach
The Government of Canada's economic profile of the Steinbach region names manufacturing, health care and social assistance, and retail trade as key sectors. The issues below are common patterns on websites in those sectors, not findings about any particular business.
Vehicle and equipment dealers
Inventory pages depend on search filters, sliders and photo carousels. These often cannot be operated by keyboard (2.1.1), give no accessible name to controls (4.1.2) and show vehicle photos with no useful alternative text (1.1.1). Payment calculators and "book a test drive" forms frequently lack proper labels (1.3.1). See retail.
Manufacturers
Product catalogues and specification sheets are often scanned PDFs, and careers pages lead to job applications that time out without warning (2.2.1). Product labels and product information are an exception under s. 7(2) (opens in a new tab), but job applications and dealer or contact forms are not. See professional services.
Trades and home services
Quote request forms that show errors only in colour (1.4.1, 3.3.1), project galleries without alternative text, and phone numbers that are images rather than text. See trades and contractors.
Languages other than English
2021 Census data for the Steinbach area show German, Tagalog and other languages spoken at home in a share of households. If your website includes pages or passages in another language, the language needs to be identified in the code (3.1.1, 3.1.2) so screen readers pronounce it correctly.
Clinics and community organizations have their own patterns. See clinics and healthcare and non-profits.
How we work with Steinbach organizations
- Remote audit against all 50 WCAG 2.1 AA success criteria, using automated scans, keyboard-only testing, NVDA, VoiceOver, 200% zoom and 320 CSS px reflow.
- Phone consultation with screen-share to walk through what we found.
- Fixed written quote for the repairs, with no hourly billing.
- Repairs that keep your design, using the least visible change and never an overlay widget.
- Compliance documentation, including accessible formats notice wording (s. 5 (opens in a new tab)), a feedback process (s. 9 (opens in a new tab)) and training material (s. 4 (opens in a new tab)).
If anything we repaired is later found not to meet WCAG 2.1 AA, we correct it at no charge. See our services.
